Pet Friendly Condos on Sanibel

While Sanibel beaches are pet-friendly, not all condo complexes on island allow pets.

Sanibel Residents Get Special Beach Access

Did you know that island residents can use 20 beach access locations on Sanibel not available to the general public?

A Seashell Hunter’s Paradise [Video]

CBS Sunday Morning did a 5 minute story on seashell hunters and Sanibel Island. I’m not an ‘extreme’ collector like some featured on the show, but I do enjoy finding uncommon shells while strolling our living beaches. While at the beach last weekend, our 12 year old daughter Emily said it best: “Looking for shells […]

Morning Beach Surprise

Even after visiting and living here most of my life, Sanibel still amazes me. Last week Susan and I enjoyed an early morning walk on the beach. Still tired, my bleary eyes barely registered the brownish cloud of water that was apparent a few feet from shore. This didn’t seem notable as occasionally clumps of […]

Christmas Eve on the Beach

Christmas Eve Service on Lighthouse Beach is a much loved Sanibel tradition. Hosted by the Sanibel Congregational Church, Pastor John Danner performed a meaningful retelling of the Christmas Story and led the singing of carols. The evening closed with a candle-lit Silent Night. Everyone is welcome, just bring your own beach chair or blanket!

Sanibel Beaches Aren’t For Everybody

I love the beach, but I’m not a sun-worshipper, nor a beach voyeur. Sometimes Susan and I go to the shore to stroll along the border between earth and sea. Other times we bring chairs, sun umbrella, and a chilled bottle of sauvignon blanc to kick back and unwind. Sanibel’s 15 miles of beaches offer […]

Sanibel’s Incredibly Low PPBM

So I’ve coined a new statistic for you analytical types: Population Per Beach Mile (PPBM). Divide Sanibel’s low population by our 15 miles of pristine beaches and […]

Photos: Fog-Bound Sanibel Shore

Sanibel is usually all about sunshine, but some rare mornings find the island shrouded in a blanket of fog. Our familiar island appears transformed into an isle more hushed and mysterious. Our morning walk seemed more serene as the air, surf, even birds paused in the stillness. Sanibel Shore in the Fog (snapped from my […]

Confession of a Work-A-Holic

So, when we moved to Sanibel, we told ourselves that we would take advantage of living on a vacation island everyday. It didn’t happen…at least not right away. Life and work find a way to keep you frantic if you let it. We brought our habits with us, and they have proven more difficult to […]

Bowman’s Beach Sanibel Island

This weekend we took our family to Bowman’s Beach on the West end of Sanibel. This protected Sanibel beach has no development in sight, providing remote and natural landscape views. With only native vegetation, white sand and the Gulf of Mexico, you get a feel for ‘big sky’ as the low horizon expands in all […]
