Gulf Pines is a neighborhood of 114 single-family homes tucked away at the end of a quiet sandy lane on Sanibel Island.
A Nature Lover’s Paradise
Gulf Pines was developed in 1972 – before the City of Sanibel was incorporated. Careful planning of the Gulf Pines neighborhood preserved the authentic beauty of Sanibel better than most other subdivisions. All homes in Gulf Pines are either directly on the gulf or a short walk from the beach down a beautiful path.
Gulf Pines Sanibel Homes for Sale
When you turn off Sanibel-Captiva Road and drive towards the Gulf front community you pass through Sanibel’s interior wetlands. I feel I’m entering a pristine place, it’s what I imagine Sanibel looked long ago.
The week I wrote this, a pair of Bald Eagles were nesting just off the drive. Photographers from Michigan were there and had sought out this location for the great photo opportunity it provides.

Gulf Pines is One of My Favorites!
If you haven’t figured it out yet, Gulf Pines is one of my favorite neighborhoods on Sanibel. I find the natural wildness beautiful and peaceful. But Gulf Pines is not for everyone. The community association protects the atmosphere by restricting building colors, and requires approval for large renovations and landscape projects. The results are to place the beauty of nature first, keeping homes understated.
