We had the pleasure of visiting CROW on Sanibel recently, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife.
Did you know CROW treats around 5,000 wildlife patients each year?? And this year, they believe they’ll be closer to 6,000 patients! That’s way more than I had imagined possible. Here’s a recap of everything I learned at CROW:
How Do They Do It?
While there are two full-time veterinarians on staff and two vet interns, CROW relies heavily on the assistance of volunteers and other interns. In fact, they have more than 200 volunteers who help in various ways each year!
How Can You Help?
If you’re able to take one shift per week for at least three months, you can volunteer at CROW! Some jobs might include:
- Feeding the wildlife patients
- Cleaning cages and bedding
- Doing laundry
- Supervising patient outdoor time
- Cleaning the clinic rooms & supplies
- Driving/running errands
- And much much more!
Visit the Education Center
Maybe you’re unable to volunteer, you can still visit the education center and gift shop at CROW! They offer a handful of Wildlife informational sessions that the public can register to attend. Live demonstrations include the CROW animal ambassadors that have recovered from injuries but are unable to be released back into the wild for concerns of safety and survival.
