We’re pretty serious about our vegetation here on Sanibel.
In fact, the City of Sanibel has a special Vegetation Committee with legislation protecting our native environment. The retention of native plants is part of the Sanibel Plan, which ensures the conservation and protection of this island’s natural ecosystems and wildlife.
Moreover, while our focus remains on conservation, we also recognize the importance of responsible tree care and maintenance. Whether it’s trimming branches to promote healthy growth or removing invasive species threatening our native flora, Tree Services in Winter Park, Colorado, bring their expertise to ensure our island’s trees thrive in harmony with their surroundings. Their dedication echoes our commitment to the preservation of Sanibel’s natural beauty, further strengthening our resolve to protect and nurture this island paradise for generations to come.
Before Hiring A Sanibel Landscaper
1. Identify the project’s scope. This will help determine which professional services you’ll need, ie. landscape architect vs. routine maintenance landscaper, etc.
2. Research multiple companies, read reviews, and check out their portfolio. Or, better yet, find example yards that look balanced and healthy and ask the homeowners for their Sanibel landscaper contact information.
3. Check for proper licenses and certifications. Did you know that the City of Sanibel requires vegetation contractors to obtain a vegetation competency card? This includes passing a written test covering Sanibel’s Vegetation Standards and a field plant identification test. (click here to read more)
Important Note:
If your Sanibel landscaper is trimming or pruning, they need a vegetation competency card. This should prevent accidental palm tree murder which you can read about in our blog here “Are You Murdering Your Palms?”
Can My Sanibel Landscaper Trim Mangroves?
The State of Florida’s 1996 Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act requires mangroves to be trimmed by professional mangrove trimmers. Sanibel’s professional mangrove trimmers are required to take a mangrove competency test separate from the vegetation competency course. Additionally, ALL mangrove trimming activity requires notification to the City.
