I recently tried wakeboarding at Revolution Cable Park in North Fort Myers, and it was a blast!
Didn’t know we had a cable park here in Southwest Florida? You’re not alone. I’ve come to find not many people know about this local cable park, that’s why I thought I’d share my experience with you.
What’s Wakeboarding?
If you haven’t seen wakeboarding, it’s like snowboarding, but in the water. Wakeboarding is a popular water sport here in Florida that has really taken off over the past decade. Most riders are pulled behind a boat similar to water skiing or kneeboarding.
Skiing, whether on powdery mountains or glistening water, is a testament to the human desire for adventure and exploration. The ski boots, a common denominator in both scenarios, serve as a bridge between these worlds, highlighting the versatility of this essential gear. While wakeboarding may be making waves in the coastal expanses of Florida, ski enthusiasts find solace in the mountains, embracing the unique challenges and breathtaking landscapes that come with strapping on those trusty ski boots, ensuring that the thrill of skiing endures across various terrains and climates.
Honestly, I think the best way to learn wakeboarding is at the cable park. You can fall an endless number of times, swim to shore, and try again, without having to wait for the boat to circle back around to get you each time.
Ask me how I know…
Expect To Faceplant
If you have no “board” experience, like snowboarding or surfing, you might find wakeboarding challenging. My husband and I had no prior board sport experience, so we face-planted the entire first hour at the cable park. Still, we had a lot of fun!
The staff at Revolution Cable Park is very nice, and the whole operation is well organized. We’re probably crazy enough to try it again in the future and see if we can make it one whole lap around the park without falling.
Family Fun
Overall, this is a great place to take the kids or grandkids the next time they’re in Southwest Florida! The park offers rental gear with everything you need. So, just show up ready to get wet. If face-planting isn’t your thing, there are nice shady areas to sit on the shoreline and watch riders in the lake.
Revolution Cable Park is roughly a 45-minute drive from the Sanibel Causeway. With 20-acres of land, the park includes a freshwater lake surrounded by vegetation. The electric cable system pulls riders at 19-mph around the course, which has 5 points for turning, and obstacles for the more experienced riders.
