It was a sunny, small-town celebration indeed! Every year, the Sanibel 4th of July Parade decorates Periwinkle Way in Red, White and Blue.
There are a number of celebrations on Sanibel – but the island parade’s are some of my favorite community events! A couple times of year, local island businesses and organizations come together to “strut their stuff” along Sanibel’s main drag, Periwinkle Way.
With hand-made floats and creative costumes, parade marchers pass out colorful beads, candy, koozies, and more candy. Check out the stash of candy the kids gathered from one of our 4th of July parades on island!
Though the 4th of July Parade on Sanibel can be a hot and sweaty event, island-residents are such great supporters, lining both sides of the roads, cheering on each float as it passes by.
Small-town events like these, truly highlight our island’s unique community spirit, creative island businesses, and our quirky love for nature and seashells.
If you haven’t been to a parade here on Sanibel, we encourage you to attend one! It’s best to come prepared with lawn chairs, sunglasses, snacks (freeze pops are our favorite), plenty of water, oh and a bag for your road-side collection of goodies.
Parade’s are a great way to cheer on and support the local community, waving at familiar faces while mingling with visitors and locals of the island. You never know who you’ll bump into – in fact, we hope to see you at the next sunny Sanibel celebration!
