During the 30 years I’ve known Sanibel, the island hasn’t changed much – at least not compared to the rest of Florida. However, the island did undergo a dramatic and rapid transformation starting in 1965 after the first bridge was built. Fortunately, proactive residents incorporated the City of Sanibel and put in place the Sanibel Plan that balanced development with sustainability, protecting much of the unique character of our island.
I’ve found some fun old pictures of the island that I will be sharing with you in the coming weeks. I hope you enjoy.
