Not to brag… but our islands get published in a number of travel blogs, contests and “best beach” rankings each year. It’s fun to read the articles with outside perspectives and experiences others have with our small-town Sanibel Island.
Sanibel Highlights
“Ding” Darling, Bailey’s Store, Bowman’s Beach, and the iconic Sanibel Lighthouse always get a shout out in the travel articles. But really, it’s the friendly grocers, miles of bike paths, neon traffic officers, and funny island birds that make you fall in love with Sanibel Island. Oh, and the views coming over the Causeway for the first time, of course, = love at first sight!
Everyone’s experience on Sanibel is different, and it’s great to see our island get the recognition of a Top Beach Destination that so greatly differs from the larger, more populated beaches of Miami, Clearwater, Fort Lauderdale, and even Naples.
Actually, Sanibel Island was recently ranked #2 as the Best Florida Beach by the U.S. News World Report, behind #1 Destin. The rankings are based 50% on user voting, and 50% on editor’s scoring, and are scored on a rolling schedule each year.
But that’s not the only category that spotlighted Sanibel Island. In fact, our quaint barrier island with 15-miles of coastline ranked in 12 different destination categories, with several in the Top Five! Check out the list below.
