Home/Island Living/Sanibel is Spooky!

Sanibel is Spooky!

I remember my family’s first few nights in our home on Sanibel. We moved from Miami where there are bright lights, loud sirens and people don’t seem to sleep. Sanibel, well, is much quieter, darker and everyone’s in bed by 9pm. This was a big adjustment for us all!

In fact, my kids were a little spooked at just how dark it was at night, and how we could hear nothing but wildlife noises outside. Of course, these are the things we love about Sanibel now, but I’ll admit it can be spooky when you’re used to city life!

Halloween on Sanibel Island

That’s why, believe it or not, Sanibel makes a great location for a creepy Halloween holiday! As you may remember from previous Halloween blog posts, the majority of Sanibel families end up in the Gumbo Limbo neighborhood on Halloween night, as that’s where the biggest trick-or-treating takes place.

It’s great fun for the kids and parents as well. Last year, our youngest, Abbie, was Moana from the Disney movie. This year she has bounced around 3 or 4 different costume ideas. So, we’ll see what she decides… and what’s most feasible by the time she decides it. 🙂

The City of Sanibel recommends trick-or-treating take place between 5pm-8:30pm on October 31st. They also stock the Sanibel City Police cars with lots of candy to pass out, which is a nice small-town touch for the community.

Besides trick-or-treating for the kiddos, there are other events that are geared for the whole family, and some just for the adults. We’ve listed a few of this year’s Halloween events below!
