Show Some Love: How to Support Sanibel’s Local Businesses

Many of Sanibel’s businesses are still recovering from Hurricane Ian.

Our boutique shops, restaurants, and businesses contribute to the island’s unique charm and character in a big way! So how can you support them to ensure they’re in business for many years to come?

Supporting Sanibel’s businesses involves more than just patronizing them; it requires a strategic approach to ensure their long-term resilience. Implementing an effective crisis management strategy is crucial for these businesses to navigate challenges and recover more robustly. By focusing on preparedness, communication, and adaptive recovery plans, businesses can better handle disruptions and safeguard their operations against future crises.

Shop Online: Explore Sanibel’s Treasures from Anywhere

Thanks to the wonders of the internet, many of your favorite local stores have established online shops where you can browse the items they have in stock, and get updates on new releases. In fact, some restaurants and shops have unique #SanibelStrong apparel where proceeds go directly to the recovery effort on island.

Visit Them In Person!

For the businesses that are open, the best way to support them is to visit them in person! Wondering what is open? The Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce has an awesome tool called the Wander app that you can download to your phone or visit from your computer by clicking here. Note, a number of Sanibel shops have moved off-island temporarily to the Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers.

Purchase Gift Cards: Help Now, Enjoy Later

One of the easiest ways to support Sanibel’s small businesses is by purchasing gift cards. Even if you don’t have an immediate need for them, these sales provide a much-needed boost to struggling businesses.

Shop Now for Later: Think Holiday Gifts

Consider upcoming holidays, birthdays, or special occasions where you could purchase gifts in advance. By doing so, you contribute to the businesses’ cash flow while making your life easier when that holiday rolls around by already having the perfect gift!

Buy Merch: Wear Your Support with Pride

One of the simplest ways to show your love for Sanibel’s small businesses is by purchasing and wearing their merchandise. Whether it’s a t-shirt, sticker, hat, or coffee cup, it can serve as a conversation starter about your favorite Sanibel shop, especially if you snap a selfie and share it on social media.

Supporting Sanibel’s Small Businesses for Free:

While financial support is essential, you can also make a meaningful impact without spending a dime. Here are some ways you can lend a helping hand for free:

  • Write a Review: Share your positive experiences and spread the word by leaving glowing reviews online. Your words can go a long way in attracting new customers and boosting their reputation.
  • Share on Social Media: Take a moment to share their posts, promotions, or updates on your social media channels. This introduces them to your network of friends and helps them gain more visibility.
  • Engage on Social Media: Not only sharing posts but engaging with posts by commenting, liking, or sharing shows your support and encourages others to do the same.
  • Stay Connected: Sign up for newsletters and stay connected. This way you remain in the loop for big announcements and can often get access to exclusive promotions and events.

Let’s rally together…

Spread the word and ensure that Sanibel’s vibrant local businesses continue to thrive for years to come!
