Sanibel Single Family Home Rental Restrictions

Residential single-family homes on Sanibel have a 28-day minimum rental restriction.

Sanibel Rental Restrictions

While many are familiar with this concept of “monthly” rentals for Sanibel residential properties, there’s sometimes confusion around the minimum requirement of this restriction.

The Sanibel Code permits the “Rental of a dwelling unit by one family for periods of no less than four consecutive weeks.” Yes, that means that not only are most residential homes restricted to only one rental per month, that one rental MUST span four consecutive weeks in length. More can be found in the Sanibel Code Chapter 126, Article VII.

Sanibel Residential Rental License

Did you know that if you do plan to rent your Sanibel property, you are required to have a rental dwelling license and a business tax receipt?

Section 126-1078 of the Sanibel Code states, “Generally. Every owner operating a dwelling rental use within the city must obtain a rental license and maintain the license during all terms of rental.” The dwelling rental license is good for one calendar year.
